One of the biggest problems I see with beginners in the RC hobby is that they can’t detect problems with their radio systems. Poor quality radios and receivers cause a lot of problems that are blamed on other things before the problem is isolated to the radio. Sometimes this can cause unnecessary expense and aggravation that could have otherwise been avoided. They can also cause driving accidents and damage that could have been prevented.
I’m not afraid to tell you that I am about as big a penny pincher that has ever walked the earth. I don’t like to spend money unnecessarily and that is one of the biggest reasons I use a 2.4ghz radio. I believe that it saves me money in the long run. I am not talking about buying a 400.00 Futaba radio, you don’t need to spend that kind of money to have a good set up. If you are a professional racer then that is a different story. But if you are a part time racer or a basher then take a look at Airtronics, they make a sport model for about 99.00 and it comes with 1 receiver. Additional receivers are about 70.00 and you can bind 10 to each transmitter.
I know it has saved me a lot of money in broken A arms having a decent radio. I don’t care what model of car you have, if you hit a curb or a tree at 30mph something is going to break. With a 2.4ghz transmitter and receiver you are going to be far less likely to hit that immovable object.
